Thursday, Dec. 1st :: Honey MPLS :: 6:30-10PM :: FREE :: All Ages

You know when a friend tells you, “I think I am going to write a book about my life…”? You shake your head, knowing the idea is a fleeting thought that will be here today and gone tomorrow. Well lucky for you, our friend Big Zach [Combs] actually followed through on his claim.

Headspin, Headshots & History: Growing up in Twin Cities Hip Hop = three hundred (and some) pages highlighting most everything you need to know about the Minneapolis/St.Paul hip-hop scene, from the last twenty years. It begins with a historical description paying homage to the pioneers of the underground society of tagging (graffiti), in the Twin Cities. Note: The book begins like this due to the fact that graf-writing was Zach’s initial gateway into the world of hip-hop culture.

Things continue on with Zach’s first-hand narrative of the scene, with an array of stories ranging from hosting prolific emcee battles to his overindulgence of happy pills on NYE ’10. If these are the sort of things that interest you, then this book should definitely be at the top of your holiday wish list.

The first edition has been finished, printed, and shipped, just in time for us to throw a book release show! The night will be held at Honey and will feature:

-Guest speakers who will shed light on all the happenings that led up to the point where Zach’s narrative begins.

-Zach talking a bit about his book, followed by a question/answer time.

-Old-school video clips of emcee battles and other things.

-The debut screening of the new More Than Lights music video.

-Book and limited edition poster signing while the DJ spins out some old school funk.

Discounted appetizers and drinks ($4 rails/taps) will be available throughout the event.
