“Dustin Thomas started playing music at 14. “You gotta do something in high school,” and according to him it was either play music or play sports. “My hand-eye coordination was there, but let’s be real: I was an Athenian amongst Spartans.” So to save himself some broken bones, he picked up a guitar and settled on broken hearts instead. Drawing first from the midwest angst of local rock shows, then to the played out anthems of Coldplay, Bright Eyes, and finally on to the “too cool” indie-rock of The Strokes. After a short stint in Private school, the aspiring singer songwriter moved to Hawaii and made a life as a street performer.
Now, 2 years later and back in the Twin Cities, Dustin Thomas has brought his brand of folk all over the midwest. Channeling Tracy Chapman and Jeff Buckley with songs for the everyman, this acoustic rocker is on the rise. From energetic yet intimate solo shows, to electrifying performances with his band, the support of the Twin City scene has taken this artist from open mics to New Year’s Eve at the Cabooze in just 6 months time; sharing stages with the likes of Mark Mallman, Roster McCabe, and Wookiefoot.
After a landslide win of 89.3 The Current’s studio time contest, DT hit the road, touring all over the midwest and as far east as NYC. Currently working on an ever growing repertoire ranging from soul, bluegrass, reggae, and indie, a freshman release is in the works. Dustin Thomas is definitely an artist to watch.”
