If you aren’t familiar with Traditional Methods, check out what Zach had to say, about the group, in his book:
In chapter 13 of my book – Headspin, Headshots and History: Growing up in Twin Cities Hip Hop – I talk about how I was in a group called Traditional Methods, from 2002-2004. In the couple years we were together, we had a pretty good local buzz. Nothing too far beyond that but locally, we had something big going on. I put the group together with two of my closest friends, Sarah White and Shiz. I helped both of them with their emceeing skills and they both made me proud and I had a lot of fun. Only a few months into our groups existence I was offered a small opertunity. They wanted to cut Shiz from the group and tell Sarah she needed to learn how to sing. I passed and stayed loyal to my homies. I told them that all Shiz needed was a little time and Sarah knew that all she needed was to train her voice. We got back together to make some music and this right here is proof that I was right (LOL), Shiz can rap and Sarah can sing just like I told them years ago. -Big Zach

In the weeks following the official release of Green Sleeve, we will also be dropping two more songs for free download, so stay tuned for:

-Glow(n) Sticks by Big Zach & Sahg-ah (Big Zach and Initial MC’s side-project)

This Sunday, Kanser will be performing at O’Gara’s (St. Paul) for the benefit of Jesse Kelley. Jesse Kelley, if you are not familiar, Mr. Kelley is a long time friend of Kanser’s and was also a member of the Interlock crew*. In Nov. 2011, Jesse was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. Due to the treatment for his illness, Jesse has only been able to work at a minimum, forcing him and his family out of their home and into separate households. Their bills for daily living continue to pile up, along with medical bills, co-pays, and child care expenses.

How can you help? Come through to O’Gara’s on Sunday afternoon and enjoy performances from Kanser, Atmosphere, Toki Wright, Nomi, DJ Blasta (emceed by Crescent Moon). The suggested donation, at the door, is $20. If you can give more, please do! Let’s band together to help Jesse and his family out of this hard time.

*To get an idea of how Jesse was involved in the hip-hop scene, check out page 97 in Big Zach’s book.

Watch this video of Dustin performing at the infamous Pink House that no one knows. If you haven’t gotten a chance, take a listen to the Pink House Sessions Vol. I and download it into your music library.
Dustin’s tour with Medicine for the People has finished so after another week or so in Hawaii, he will be back in the States, traveling around. If you want him to play in your city, let him know!

Earlier this week, Alicia Steele and The Endeavors released a project called “Foreplay Sessions”. This project was originally going to be an EP but due to complications, things have been changed. Answering every aspiring deejay’s prayers, Alicia & crew will be releasing this project in bits & pieces (see below). A couple recordings were saved so those will be released – along with a couple live recordings from their Dakota show – and included in the Sessions (previews of those songs below). Check what Alicia had to say on the subject:

The story goes…

Months and months ago we recorded some music, expecting to be a part of a project. Long story, it fell through. We ended up not using the recordings, feel free to ask Alicia why, so we decided to release the tracks along with a few live performances.

The stems from those sessions are available for you to make something beautiful, something unrecognizable and creative.

[WHEN] Valentines Day – Tuesday, February 14th :: 9PM

[PRICE] $5

[WHAT]

Lemme guess, you haven’t made plans for Valentines Day yet; you’re busy so you’re going to wait until the day of to go out and grab some wilted petals and low-fat candies for your lady. My friend, please listen to me when I tell you, she deserves better than that. You know what she deserves? A bottle of wine, a nice dinner, and a dimly-lit room filled with the sweet sounds of jazz. And we can give that to you!

This Valentines Day, Alicia Steele and The Endeavors will be gracing the basement of Honey with a night full of jazzed melodies. The night will feature a few different aspects, beginning with a DJ set from Noam the Drummer (Turnt Up!), spinning the illest r&b and hip-hop. Completing the artistic environment will be some live painting from Ron Brown as well as free tarot card readings. Finally, to end the night will be a full-length set from Alicia and her band, the Endeavors.

Remember above when I mentioned that we got you covered? Well, I wasn’t lying. For only $39, you and your significant other will be able to enjoy two entrees, a bottle of wine, and dessert. If you aren’t hungry but in search of an elixir, do not fret; $4 rails and taps will be available throughout the show.

If you have an undercover lover and would like to keep the lovin’ on the down-low, we understand. Hosted right here on the CrowdNoize TC website, we will be streaming the whole show live! Basically, you have no excuse not to enjoy this show in one way or another. Happy Valentines Day!
